HALLOWEEN @ LOCAL 506

SOME GIRLS takes the stage this Halloween at Chapel Hill’s Local 506 for a romp through your favorite tunes from the glitter twins’ dirty disco era. A supergroup of local rock vets, SOME GIRLS deliver on the look, moves, and sounds of the early 80s Stones.

The evening will also include stellar sets from The Julies (60s psych/garage/freakbeat classics feat. members of Violet Vector & the Lovely Lovelies and the Huguenots) and Southern Girls (Cheap Trick reenvisioned by members of Le Weekend, Erie Choir, Piedmont Charisma and the Sames).

Costumes, supreme jams, and the 506. Make it happen! Halloween! Doors at 9:00 p.m., $5 cover. This party will rule.

the SOME GIRLS story

SOME GIRLS formed in 2002 for a performance at the legendary Kings Cover-Up. The original lineup featured Neill Prewitt (Cold Sides) as Mick Jagger, Zeke Graves (Cold Sides, DATAHATA) as Ronnie Wood, Finn Cohen (The White Octave, The Nein) as Keith Richards, Lincoln Hancock (The White Octave, Strange) as Bill Wyman, Robert Biggers (The Nein, Le Weekend) as Charlie Watts, and Bill Newton as Bobby Sax. The performance at the Cover-Up went over extremely well, but no follow-up shows were planned.

But in the summer of 2009, the guys got a call from James Hepler about a promotional benefit being organized for CyTunes, a music store raising money for brain tumor research at Duke in honor of our friend Cy Rawls. It seemed like an appropriate moment to make another go at it. But Finn was in Russia working for the Moscow Times, and Bill Newton was busy with other commitments. SOME GIRLS moved quickly to find another Keef, and Raleigh’s Erik Sugg (Dragstrip Syndicate, The Cherry Valence, The Static Minds) was eager to step in. The natural choice for a new saxman was Crowmeat Bob Pence (Razor Wire Safety Net, Savage Knights, The New Romans).

SOME GIRLS returned to the stage in July, 2009. They began expanding their repertoire to include more material from the early 80s albums. They bought new wigs and new spandex. They performed in Raleigh again to a thrilled Slim’s audience. And now they are gearing up for their most expansive set yet at the Local 506 — Halloween night, 2009.
